Ecumenical Efforts

Today is the day that Pope Francis is rumored to announce married pirest. If that happens, you heard it here first!

Pope Francis is in Mexico this week, where he plans to visit the US border, the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and of course, Mexico City. Before arriving, he landed in Cuba and met with Patriarch Krill, of the Russian Orthodox Church. This is the first time a Pope has met with a Patriarch, since the Orthodox Church split off from the Catholic Church in 1054. The two religious leaders signed a declaration together, highlighting the things they have in common.

Hopefully, within our lifetimes, we can see the two churches be reunited.

Speaking of churches working together, the Catholic Church and the Lutheran Church recently released Declaration On the Way. It details 32 statements that both churches have come to a consensus on. It also lists 15 topics that still need to be worked on. Considering that the two churches didn't talk to each other from 1515 to 1965, this is a lot of progress in terms of reconciliation.

Hopefully, within our lifetimes, we can see the two churches be reunited.
