O MY GOSH I CAN´T WAIT!!! Awesome trailer.
I still hope Nancy´s mom being dead is a lie. But, I guess she really was murdered :(

I can't wait!

Suzanne, were you hoping Kate was still alive after all this time?

Suzanne Klare said...

A part of me was, actually. Not anymore, now that I´ve seen the trailer.

Anonymous said...

Oic. I think keeping Kate alive would just make more people upset because of the canon thing. Some are still up in arms and threatening to not support HeR anyway because Kate will be a major theme. It's silly.

Suzanne Klare said...

Wow, seriously? That's just dumb. They shouldn't be whining like that.

OH MY GOSH!! This game looks AWESOME! Action, adventure Scottish accents, great animation, SPIES! There are so many cool things in this game.
Also, did we see Nancy as a baby in the trailer?

I'm kind of surprised that they're getting away with an E10+ rating considering Nancy, who's what, 16? 18? SHE'S GETTING SHOT AT! Not punched, not electrocuted in an odd fashion, not choked, not pistol whipped like SCKR, but actually shot at with what appears to be a sniper rifle. That's really, really dark for a Nancy Drew game.

I like dark Nancy Drew games; this should be good.

Michael Morphew, maybe it's a staged attack? :p

IT LOOKS AMAZING!!! I already pre ordered!

@Dante: I think so!!!

If Kate is that pretty, Nancy has to be beautiful!!! ;)

Some people don’t like the idea of a game that revolves around Nancy’s mother because it’s adding a whole new dimension to Nancy’s character that just wasn’t in the books. Nancy’s mother, or even her death, had very little to do with shaping Nancy’s character, her life, and her choices. It was just a fact of the books/her life: her mother is dead, her dad’s a lawyer, and she has a dog. They’re just facts about her life, not meant to be taken as tangents into new plot points. Carson has more to do influencing Nancy’s character then "Kate" ever did in the books, and it would fit her archetype better if there was a game about HIM instead. Maybe that makes me a loyalist, or dumb according to some people here, but it is what it is. Her mother has very little to do with Nancy’s life no matter what book you read. HER is welcome to breach into new territory, of course, and create their own parallel version of Nancy, but don’t expect some of us to take it as canon. Just like with Frank’s crush on Nancy in the games. Cute idea, but it never happened. It’s just animated fan fiction at this point.

Man nancy drew games are so violent lol

James said...

Thank you Anon 5:59, for explaining an alternative point of view without stooping to name calling the other side like others have here. It's okay not to like every single ND game HER makes. I don't remember a lot of support for "Creature of Kapu Cave," and they weren't insulted or ridiculed for their lack of support.

This. Looks. Epic. I can't wait!!!

Why is it that you people only bitch and moan about the games? It's all, "BUT CAAAAANNNOOOOONNNN," whatever that even means anymore. Do you people realize how many spin-offs there were (and currently are)? What about the Nancy Drew Diaries that S&S just released? I don't see anyone complaining about why Nancy is a little kid. HeR's Nancy and Stratemeyer's Nancy are not one and the same. Nancy's stories have never been completely consistent. Just because HeR wants to shed some light on a lesser-known aspect of Nancy's life doesn't mean that they're doing it so they can change the original stories to make it their own. You people just sound so ridiculous when you compare the games to the original series like this. HeR isn't trying to replicate the books!

But as a reminder, here are some inconsistencies throughout the originals and revised editions. These facts are from LJ's blog:

• Nancy's heritage is Scottish on her mom's side (Read The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes)
• Nancy's mom's maiden name was Austin
• She died when Nancy was 10 (in the original blue books)
• She died when Nancy was 3 (in revised books)
• She died of an illness
• She died in a car crash

Soooooo....which points are you going to complain about? Are you going to argue that Nancy's mother should have died when she was 10 and completely dismiss the revised editions? BUT BUT BUT CAAAANNNNNOOOONNNNNNNNNNN

Anonymous said...

It's fine and dandy to not enjoy the game. But to refuse to hate because of this canon thing? That's pretty awful. Going by that logic, I hope you've also refused the revised editions, the tv shows, the movies, the super mysteries, the comics......

Anonymous said...

I jus dont like Nancy gettin shot at. thats soooo violent. like, what if they are gang members???? omg. i don't support gangs and islami terrorists cuz they bad and are not following God's paths at all

i cant beleive her included terrorisms in this game! O_O

Wow. The average age of users on this forum must be 12.

I can understand why die-hard Nancy Drew fans would take issue with the Silent Spy, but I don't think it is fair to judge the game so negatively before it has even come out. Who knows, maybe the culprit in the game made up the whole story about Kate Drew just to lure Nancy into some sort of trap. We cannot know for sure because the game has not come out yet.

Also, why can't we think of the book canon and the game canon as separate canons? I am sure that there have been things added to the games that were not in the books, but people did not make a huge issue of those.

In my opinion, I think this game looks pretty cool and it may bring more depth to Nancy's character. But to be fair, I do not know that for sure either, since the game has not come out yet!

Katie! It has been forever!

James said...

He's probably right Katie. Only someone emotionally immature resorts to name calling, like preteens and teenagers are apt to do. This post is full of demeaning posts about those who don't like this game. Nobody mature would insult someone over a simple video game. They would be like Dante, offer a respectful dissensting opinion, while still paying respects to the other side. Dante and Anon 5:59 are the only mature parties here. The rest seem like immature teenagers who put WAY too much stock in video games, and vilify others behind the annoymity of a computer screen.

Way to try contribute something meaningful to the table there, James.

James, this has been a very mild thread. There hasn't really been any name-calling... Besides, this is the Internet. People can do whatever they want, name calling included. This is a casual, open, leisurely discussion so it's not like civility even matters. The Internet is not like the real world. It's not like you need to moderate or anything.

Brittany said...

Anon 5:59: Did you know that there was a heavy romance factor between Nancy and Frank in the 1970s TV series? I agree with 10:00 anon - "canon" barely applies to the Nancy Drew universe because of all the changes and inconsistencies. So why is everyone so upset about just the games? It just doesn't make sense.

James said...

If that's how people want to talk to each other, fine. Freedom of speech can be abused--it's not a green flag to say whatever you want. And Internet or real life, they are still people with thoughts and feelings and opinions that should be respected. I would just appreciate more in civility, no matter of the medium, but if nobody wants that, or is fine with the current system, then I guess it is what it is.

Brittany said...

James, you're seriously overreacting.

Alex said...

Leave him alone, you guys. Honestly, someone has a different view and it's time to jump on the bandwagon now.

Uh... Frank has a crush on Nancy in the games? Did HER say that somewhere, Because I never thought that was a thing...? Huh. Yeah, these are games based on the Nancy Drew character, I never really thought they were claiming to be canon. Especially since practically half of them are at least loosely based on the plots of the original books. And I don't see what Kate being practically a background element in the books has to do with the quality of this game's twist; I mean, maybe I just don't understand this correctly for whatever reason, but wouldn't creating a twist from a backstory detail that no one has really paid any attention to be a better idea, and "mess with the story" ~less~ than creating it from something more prominent…?

James, you are going to have to ignore them. I noticed on your other posts that you have said you are a European, and I’m guessing because HER’s main market is America, that most users on this blog are Americans (not all, but the majority probably are.) American civility and European civility are completely different. I’m Swiss, and work in tourist shop, and it’s a daily occurrence of American tourists coming in there and talking down Switzerland, (our games, our food, our hotels, it never ends), while playing up some aspect of America in comparison. They will shout you down until only their voice is heard. It’s just how they talk, and it’s something you have to ignore, or their “city upon a hill” attitude, that their voice and opinion is right and is the only way, will drive you crazy.

James said...

I’m English, and I agree they are different to some extent. The American tourists in England act so much different than tourists from other countries. We have so many accidents in front of my work because they try to drive rental cars, cause accidents, and up confused and blaming US, wnating us to pay for everything, because of how we “drive on the wrong side of the road.” Who comes to another country and tells them the people there drive wrong? I mean, they don’t think it’s rude at all to say that, but we would be mortified to go to New York City and tell them that. Maybe it’s just a cultural difference. Even on the Internet, you are still expected to show manners. There's no such thing as acting this way in real life, and acting a different way online.

Anonymous said...

Ha. Yes, we get blamed for “driving wrong” too when there’s an accident. It IS a cultural difference, and it’s not something that you can change. You can only ignore it.

Anonymous said...

I've seen plenty of instances in which the European tourists in the US or students (like at the university I attend) act completely rude towards the Americans. You can't just say it's the Amercians who are annoying. Many of the Europeans here act like snobbish or like they're better than everyone around them. I see them point and laugh at Amercian students regularly, making loud comments in their native languages because they think no one can understand them. Some of us can though, and it leaves a bad impression.

Anonymous said...

James, no wonder you're such a prat - you're English! Har har har

Jack said...

I’m Canadian, so I have no dog in proving which culture is more pompous. Quite honestly, American education is awful. I think they are ranked in the low 20s out of the entire world. If I was attending an American school, I would probably laugh too (maybe not at the students, but at the system.) I had to attend a Maine school for a while, and they were teaching stuff to 14 years old that I had learned when I was 10. Maybe that’s what they are laughing at, which I don’t blame them for. American schools are a joke, even here in Canada. Americans typically don’t cause much a problem of here because our language and culture are so similar, but some problems have arisen in Quebec because Americans are expecting them to speak English, (the only language that the majority knows), and are upset when they speak French and not English. At least when Europeans come, no matter what country, they speak more than one language and don't demand us to conform to them.

Not ALL Americans obviously, but there’s definitely an attitude of exceptionalism that some carry over to other countries. Heck, even the Russian president lambast the American president for referring to American exceptionalism last week in his speech on Syria. I think people are just sick of it and they aren't going to be silent about it anymore.

How in the HECK did it go from Nancy Drew to pompous countries...

Let's end it by saying that some Americans and Canadians and English are nice, and some are pompous jerks :D Ok?!?!?

Looks like a winner I might even pre-order this one! I immediately thought of "AIA" when they showed Kate at the white Piano in the Drew house.
I have to say this.. I'm surprised how emotional some comments were over a computer game and computer generated characters?

haven't watched other trailers (in fact, i didn't even know there was another nd game coming out), but this one vaguely reminds me of "Castle", that's a tv show
