My Job as a Bookstore Cashier

So...I just got fired from my job as a cashier at San Jose State University's bookstore.

I have no idea why.

I did a five-hour shift last Wednesday, and it went well, I guess.  I kept my nose to the grindstone and did my job like I was supposed to.  It was kind of boring, to be honest, because the first half of the shift was a training program, and during the second half of the shift, there weren't any customers.

Then, yesterday, I got a message saying that my services would no longer be needed, and they sent my paycheck via FedEx.  Weird.  Did they hire too many people or something?  It seems weird that they'd put me through training, then fire me before I officially started work.

Anyway, back to unemployment.

That's horrible! In Finland you are not allowed to fire anyone without a proper reason! You have to tell what he did wrong or if he wasn't good enough.

Okay, but still, it happens in Finland too... But I'm so annoyed right now. I just... GOSH, that's so annoying!

I'm sorry :( Maybe you can email your ex-bos politely asking the reason why you were let go. I mean, they should tell you, if they had a good reason to ...

They obviously had no idea who they had hired. You should put your YouTube channel on your next resume! :)

They sound like idiots to me. Finances aside, you're probably well out of it. I'm with Sanni; I though it was at least good manners if not the law to tell a person why they were no longer required. How disappointing. I'm really quite sad for you. I've been made redundant loads of times, but fired only once. I hated the job, and I rang in the morning to say I was sorry it was late notice but I was going to a job interview and would be a bit late in. It really doesn't pay to be honest - I should have told them I was sick. What a hoo ha; I had black looks and nasty comments from the other staff, and I actually got shouted at both on the phone and when I got into the office, which should never happen. You'd have thought I'd killed someone. I somehow managed not to cry until I had got home, but it was pretty stressful.

Who in their right mind would fire you?! You're in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about that :( It's kind of stupid of them to fire you when you never officially started. Weird though, my friend also got fired from her job, but it's mainly because the company was moving a new location. :\ Any who~ they have no idea who the heck they fired, dude your famous! So don't let your um-employment bring you down man! I'm sure you'll find a new, good, and probably WAY better job sooner or later. :)

Michael, have you ever considered a job that you can do from home?

I know it sounds far fetched but last year I was in college and needed a part-time job REALLY badly. I applied to all kinds of places (even McDonald's, lol) and didn't get ANY responses.

I started looking into work at home stuff and did customer service taking inbound calls for about two months.

Fair warning -- they're mostly call-center type jobs. I don't know if you have any experience/the patience for it, but it's good money. Some of them pay hourly.

I have two websites for you, if you want to sift through them. They're both extensive lists of companies who hire employees remotely. One is for stay-at-home Moms (I know, I know... give it a chance anyway) and the other is another list compiled by someone who's been working from home for years.

If you do go for the customer service-type positions, they usually require a landline phone, a USB headset and a quiet environment (no dogs barking, no interruptions or loud noises if possible). Most of them will also train you.

I hope that helps! I know about a few other kinds of jobs but I didn't want to bombard you with TOO much info. I watch your videos frequently and visit your blog at the same rate, so if you did want to know more then just let me know. :)

Sorry about the job.

Sorry. You did say it was temporary. Maybe they were trying to say that you won't be working until you asked to work again. Maybe you are a reserve employee or something. How about working at a local TV station? You might make a good "soundman", if you know what I mean!

Aw, that's horrible. I'm praying for you, :)

Wow, sorry to hear that. They should have at least given you a reason. It seems unprofessional not to. At least they sent your paycheck. I hope you find a new job soon! Will pray for you that you do.

Well that stinks. :( Maybe if you go over there you can ask for a reason? I hope you find a job again.. good luck.
